10/14/14 Greers Ferry Lake Dam Site Park. Heber Springs, AR

I was up at 8:00 and writing yesterdays journal entry.  Jami was up at 9:00 so i started her coffee and we sat outside for a bit chatting and planning today route to Dam Site Park (Greers Ferry) to attend the Workamper Rendezvous.  Its a short drive being under 80 miles so there was no rush to get on the road.

Around 10:30 we started getting ready and by 11:40 we were pulling out of the dump station and on the road.  We were only on the freeway for about 20 miles before exiting onto much more scenic roads.  Once we neared our destination we pulled over at a visitor center to park the RV and drive the Toyota into the campground to select our campsite.  This park has 252 campsite ranging in price from $16-$22 per night and from no hook-up to 30amp only to 50amp & water.  We found a great 50amp & water site at the end of a row so there is no other campers in view on our door side and we could also get satellite signal.  Jami dropped me back off at the camper and she raced back to save our site.  This campground as of now does not reserve any of there sites, first come first serve policy.  But a lot of the sites do say "reservable" in front of them so maybe during the peak summer season they do take reservations.

When i got to our selected site N-24 Jami was their waiting for me so she got me backed in.  I wasn't completely sure we could get satellite signal being backed all the way to the rear of our site, but i unhooked the camper anyway and got the electrical plugged in.  Jami sent up the satellite and we waited for it to find the satellite, but finally determined we needed to pull forward some.  I jumped back into the truck and hooked the camper back up and pulled forward about 8'.  This time Jami sent the satellite up before i unhooked again :)  The satellite locked one to all of the needed satellites so i then unhooked and did the rest of my outside duties while Jami finished setting up the inside.

We already have 7 people interested in getting weighed so we jumped back in the Toyota in search of a suitable weigh site.  We though that would be easy being this place has 2 very large parking areas, but as it turned out they were very un-level so we had to think of an alternative location.  Jami mentioned the visitor center where we parked our RV earlier so we drove over their to see if it was level enough.  It turned out to be level so then we needed to go inside and get permission to weigh in there parking lot, but first i wanted to drive down a road leading from their parking lot to see if there was an even better location.  Well, that road became very windy and a steep down hill until we reached the end at the bottom of the Greers Ferry Dam, Cool!

After that nice surprise we drove back up the road and stopped at the visitor center.  Jami ran in and was directed to see the Ranger in the building behind the visitor center, we drove to that building and Jami went inside.  Jami was told by the Ranger that he would have to ask his boss first and call us once he had an answer.  The people here have been very nice and accommodating.  We left their and headed to Wagon Wheel Campground where 3 of the people wanting to get weighed are camping.  We were hoping we could find a suitable weigh site their too, but when we arrived we saw the entire place but the entrance is gravel roads which we can not weigh on.  We'll have to notify the people staying their that if they want to get weighed they will need to drive to the visitor center about 12 miles away.  Bummer

We headed back home, but pulled off to get some dinner to go at Subway and then continued home.  Once home we went inside and eat dinner while watching some TV.  Once done with dinner we headed out on a long walk with Jemma through part of the huge campground.  This is a really nice campground from what we've seen so far and i forgot to bring our camera so i'll have to get pictures for you tomorrow.  We walked for about an hour and headed back home for showers.  The rest of the night we watched TV and headed to bed around 11:30.
