10/20/14 Greers Ferry Lake Dam Site Park. Heber Springs, AR

Today started like most days, me up at 7:30 working on computer and Jami up around 9:00 drinking coffee with now both of both of us on our electronics.

We have been leaving messages and even a note on the door at a local church here hoping to ask them if we could weigh some RV's in their parking lot, with no response we decided we can no longer wait and needed to secure a weighing place somewhere around here.  We got in the Toyota and started driving around looking for places that has a level parking lot that was big enough.  After about 40 minutes we found a Holiday Inn Express on the main road around here 25 Bypass.  I walked in and spoke with the manager on duty named "Star".  She was very friendly and said we were welcome to use the parking lot.  That's a huge load off our minds.

I had read about a water fall in this area called ""Bridal Veil Falls" and while we were driving around we saw a sign for it so we decided to drive back there to see it.  We parked in the small parking area and started walking on the trail to the falls.  It was a very short trail to the observation deck where we could view the falls.  Now this isn't the best time to view the falls cause of the low water flow, but it was still a beautiful site to see.

Its hard to see the water fall, but it's there :)

We could see a small trail where people have walked to the top of the falls so we decided we would too.

With not much water flowing we could easily walk the path of the river to the edge of the falls, now i'm not much for heights so i kept my distance from the edge, Jami on the other hand has no problem walking up to the edge and looking over.

While she was close to the edge she notice a trail on the other side that looked like it would take you down to the bottom of the falls, so i held Jemma while she scoped it out.  Sure enough it did, so i followed her down the trail to the bottom.  On the way Jami came across this snake, so i carried Jemma past it to make sure she didn't give it a sniff and get bite.

I stopped about half way down and took this picture of the observation deck were we first saw the water fall.

And then i figured i would learn how to take video on my phone, so here is attempt #1

And then i did a 2nd

Once at the bottom we walked around enjoying the view.

You can even walk all the way behind the water fall and out the other side.  As beautiful as it is, i could only imagine how awesome it would be when the water is in full flow.  I took some video so you could enjoy the calming noise as we were :)
After the above picture Jemma had to join her Mommy
One last video from behind the falls

We hung around enjoying the atmosphere before making the climb back out.  Once we made it back to the truck we then headed to towards the "Greers Ferry Dam".  First we stopped off at a viewing area for the dam.

The above picture you can see the bright color of the beach on the left side of the river, that is the beach in out campground.

From there we drove to the JFK Campground which is down stream of the dam sitting on the Little Red River.  Its a very nice campground, plus there is a Trout Hatchery next to it.  The Greers Ferry National Fish Hatchery allows self guided tour through the facility, so we parked the truck and started our tour.

Sorry for so many pictures of trout fish, but i couldn't stop taking pictures.  I was fascinated with this place.  Obviously I've never been to a fish hatchery before :)  I believe the type of trout were Rainbow Trout.

The trout as babies, smaller than my smallest finger nail

Then in different tanks they were 3/4 - 1" long

They had another few tanks with them a little bigger, but some how i did get any pictures of them :(

It looked like they stay in tanks inside the building till they reach around 4"+ before they get moved to the outside tanks.

You can tell which tanks have the hungry fish cause they get pretty active when you get near them

 They keep getting bigger :)
Below is a video of them jumping around

They had 1 tank of fish they don't release, they call them their prize fish and boy were the HUGE!!!!!  Of course the picture of took didn't turn out :(

Once i was able to pull myself away from there we drove just down the road to the Collins Creek Trout Stream.  Its a short trail that follows this stream down to where it runs into Little Red River.
As soon as you park and get out of your vehicle you can hear the running water in the distance.

That got us excited to we walked down the trail till it reached the stream and found this beautiful view.  The first thing that happened is Jemma wanted in the water.
Then i was able to turn around to this beautiful water flow

Now that is awesome.  I even took a short video so you could hear the flowing water.

We continued down the trail till it reach the JFK Campground where we took a break and let Jemma get into the water.

We walked back to our truck and headed home.  We had a "get to know the Vendors" gathering tonight for the Workamper Gold members from 6-8pm, but first the vendors were to get together from 4:30-6 to meet each other.  I needed to shave so i took a shower and shaved and Jami got ready and we left the house about 4:15 to head to the pavilion here at our park where the event was being held.

We got to meet most everyone and Workamper provided pizza and drinks so we got to eat too :)
The Gold Member Attendees started arriving so we began to mingle and introducing ourselves.  It seemed that most already knew who we were so we talked some about weighing RV's and answered as many questions as we could and of course we talked about this wonderful lifestyle.  It was a fun night, but when 8:00 rolled around we were ready to head home.

When we got home i went straight to work on today's journal entry and uploading photos while Jami took a shower and then began preparing some of her Origami Owl stuff to display tomorrow at the workamper opening day.  We have to be their at 6:30AM to help Workamper set up and prepare for attendee registration which starts at 7:30.   We called it a night without any TV today around 10:30.
