I was up and out of bed at 7:30 this morning sitting at our table writing yesterdays journal. I had woken up a few times last night because of our dog Jemma moving around a lot so when i woke at at 7:00 i wasn't ready to leave the comfort of the covers. We had 5 RV's to weigh today and the first 2 were scheduled at 10:00 over at the visitor center so Jami wanted to be up at 8:00. With only 1 bathroom in our rig i figured i best get up at 7:30 so weren't fighting for the 1 and only toilet :)
I finished up the journal entry around 9:00 so i ate some breakfast and we headed over to the visitor center around 9:30 to get set up. We got set up in about 10 minuets and was waiting for the first arrival to show when a person from the Ranger Station walked over to us asking what we were doing. We explained that we were weighing 2 RV's this morning and also told him who we spoke to that gave us permission. He then asked if this is a free service, we told him no that there is a fee for it. That's when he dropped the bad news on us, he explained to us that we could not weigh on government property if there is money changing hands. We were in shock, we pleaded with him to allow us to weigh the 2 RV's that were already on their way which he did allow us to do thankfully. He also notified us that the campground is also government property so we cant weigh there either.
The 2 RV's showed up just after 10:00, but being 5th wheels we first weighed the truck and trailer, then they had to unhook the trailer so we could weigh the truck again without the weight of the trailer on it. We finished both of them by 11:00 and then were going to head back to our campground to weigh another person that was scheduled at 11:30, but he called to tell us he was running late and wouldn't arrive till 12:15. With that news we decided we best drive around and look for a new place to weigh at. We have a total of 3 scheduled to be weighed today at our campground which we now know were not supposed to do in the campground, but unless we find a new place in a hurry were just going to have to hope we don't get caught for now.
We found plenty of large parking lots that would fit plenty of RV's, but the problem we kept running into is how un-level they are. We did find a church just down the street from "Workamper News" office that would work, We stopped by Workamper News and Jami went inside and spoke to Jody about our problem and if she knew of any places where we could weigh RV's. She thought the church that we mentioned just down the street was a good idea so she looked up their phone number and called for us. No one answered so she left a message, but she thinks we have a pretty good chance because the pastor of that church was just in their office last week inquiring about "workamping" fingers crossed :)
We headed back to our campground to weight for our 12:15 appointment to arrive and then we had 2 scheduled at 1:00. We got all 3 of them weighed and then i walked to each of their campsites to go over their numbers. There were some concerns with 2 of the RV's so it took much longer than normal to go over everything and to make suggestions to help manage their situation. It was almost 4:30 when i walked back home so Jami and i took Jemma on a nice walk through one of the closed campground loops. When we returned i suggested we go out to eat at a chines buffet we saw earlier when we drove into town. She was all for it so we hopped in the truck excited about going out and actually sitting down inside for dinner. We pulled into the parking lot of the buffet only to learn they had closed down, DARN!!! We continued on to see what else was around, we found a BBQ place on the GPS so we headed their to learn, you guessed it, CLOSED. That's it, were going to drive back through town and find something that we can clearly see is open with cars in the parking lot :) We found a small place names "Lisa's steakhouse & grill" We went inside, were seated and given menus, Um, steakhouse is a stretch. they do have steak, but they also have Pasta dished, Mexican dishes, Chicken dishes and everything in between. Jami had Chimichanga with Fried Okra, that's an odd mixture, but she said it was good. I had the chicken fried steak with garlic mashed potatoes which was okay. We went back home, got showers and prepared for a campfire tonight!!! That always gets us excited :)
It was a perfect night for a campfire, we started out with light jackets on, but once the fire got going we were able to take them off. We sat outside around the fire for a few hours taking about all kinds of stuff. We called it a night around 11:00 and went to bed. Sorry for the lack of pictures, i'll try to do better tomorrow.
